William and Verona ran a great race to win the 148 cm pony race final to win the East Anglian final at Fakenham on Sunday 4 June, shown on the ATR television channel. It was an exciting race and all the jockeys rode well. Verona was at the back of the group going down the back straight but the field was well-bunched and she was travelling very well. Gradually eased up into third, William then saw his chance when a gap opened up on the rail and Verona was wound up to full speed and, having taken the lead, quickly accelerated away from her rivals and kept on brilliantly to the line, winning by some 8-10 lengths. William won back the cup that he had won in the same event last year on Hope.

On Saturday, Tegan Kerr rode Legend to Be at Garthorpe at the last point to point meeting there for the season. Legend once again jumped superbly and they finished 4th. Tegan has had three point to point rides in her first season and has never been out of the first four finishers – not many novice riders can claim such a good record. Well done to her! Legend has lived up to his name by also winning two races under Dickie Collinson this season – not bad for Tony’s hunter! We may give him a spin over regulation fences this summer as he seems to enjoy the quicker ground so much.
